MINI SPLIT COOLING & HEATING SYSTEMS

Mini split systems that utilize high-efficiency inverter technology

are becoming very popular in homes and businesses.

Read on to learn more about the difference between the two kinds of

mini split systems - ductless and ducted - and how they differ from conventional AC.

ductless mini split systems

A ductless mini split system has an outdoor condenser that connects directly to an interior wall mounted unit. One condenser can run several interior units in different rooms.

Ductless mini split systems are easily installed in most homes and commercial settings. These mini splits are a great option for older homes, small apartments, new additions, garages or other spaces where ductwork is not feasible. Ductless mini splits are also a cost-effective way to cool your home or business.

Ducted mini split systems

Ducted mini split systems are a fairly new upgrade to conventional central AC. Like conventional AC, ducted mini splits offer hidden units but are also able to cool AND heat, are more energy efficient and allow zone temperature control.

Condensers for ducted mini splits can be located outside or in a basement or attic, with vents placed in the ceiling or floor like conventional cooling/heating vents.

Ductless and Ducted mini splits both offer better energy efficiency

Both ductless and ducted mini split systems are more energy efficient than conventional central AC or window units.

The Department of Energy reports that conventional central AC unit ductwork loses more than 30% of energy, especially if the ducts are in an unconditioned space such as an attic.

Ductless mini splits bypass this energy loss completely.

Ducted mini splits have short ducts that are much more energy efficient than conventional AC ductwork.

Conventional air conditioning units also use more electrical watts per hour than mini splits, adding to the cost to run them.

Ductless and ducted mini splits both offer varying temperature control

As opposed to conventional central AC that cools your spaces to one set temperature, mini split systems allow you to control the temperature in different rooms or zones.

This not only keeps your home or business comfortably warm or cool, but can also help keep your energy bill down!
